Optiland Community Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing, creating an account, or using the Optiland Community website, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our platform.

Please note: These Terms govern the use of the Optiland Community website and its forums. The Optiland software itself is governed separately by its respective open-source license (MIT).

2. User Accounts, Security & Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account on this platform. You are fully responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or the integrity of the platform at our sole discretion.

3. User-Generated Content

When an expert writes a blog post or a university submits a design challenge, they retain full copyright and ownership of their original work. However, by posting or uploading content on Optiland, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute that content across our platform and associated promotional channels.

4. Acceptable Use / Code of Conduct

Optiland is a professional and academic community focused on optical engineering. To maintain a high-quality environment, the following are strictly prohibited:

• Spam, promotional solicitations, and irrelevant content.
• Harassment, hate speech, or abuse of any community members.
• Uploading malicious code, viruses, or destructive scripts.
• Attempting to bypass security or authentication measures.

5. Intellectual Property (Design Challenges)

By participating in design showcases or challenges, you explicitly guarantee that you have the right to share the submitted designs. You must ensure you are not uploading or sharing confidential, proprietary, or classified work from your employers, universities, or clients. Optiland takes no responsibility for the unauthorized distribution of intellectual property submitted by users.

6. Copyright Infringement & Takedown Policy

We respect the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe your copyrighted work or proprietary optical design has been uploaded to the Optiland Community without permission, please contact us at help@optiland.org with a description of the work, its location on our site, and your contact information so we can investigate and remove the infringing material.

7. Limitation of Liability

The Optiland website and its open-source software are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without any warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Optiland Community and its maintainers shall not be held responsible or liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use or inability to use the website, software, or forum content.

8. Changes to the Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time as our community grows. We will notify users of significant changes via email or platform announcements. Continued use of the site after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Germany, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the platform will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Jena, Germany.
